Patterdale is a small village in the eastern side of the lake district. Smaller than Grasmere, but still popular with tourists and walkers due to it being increadibly picturesque. The village of Patterdale is close to the village of Glenridding and Hartsop. The lake of Ullswater is less than five minuets by car.

Patterdale is well situated for people who like mountains and views of mountains. Some of the best routes up Helvellyn, such as the one via Striding Edge ridge, start from this village. Two other fells within easy reach of Patterdale are Fairfield and High Street which are also popular with fell walkers.

Patterdale is located just past the south western head of Ullswater near the bottom of the Kirkstone Pass. There is accommodation for walkers at the Patterdale and Glenridding YHA Youth Hostels, and there is also a hotel. For the general visitor, there are steam boat cruises on nearby Ullswater.
