Great Langdale

Great Langdale is one of the nicest valleys in the Lake District. People come here for it’s stunning mountain scenery, and some of the best walks in Lakeland start from this valley.

Great Langdale has two hotels offering drinks, accommodation and food. There is also a National Trust campsite set in the heart of the valley. The valley itself is deep set, and surrounded by high Fells such as the Langdale Pikes. The walk from the New Dungeon Gill Hotel up to Stickle Tarn is worth doing just for the view of Pavey Ark, a near vertical rock face, on the other side of the water.

Further down the valley near the Old Dungeon Gill Hotel and NT campsite there are routes leading to Scafell Pike, Bow Fell, Crinkle Crags, and the Pike of Blisco.

Whilst all the Lakeland Valleys are outstanding in their own unique way, it is especially difficult to express the breathtaking beauty of the Langdale vista.
